Choosing The Best Managed Health Care Plan

Choosing The Best Managed Health Care Plan

Before choosing a managed care plan make sure you have a list of services that you want it to provide. Sometimes a POS plan, because of its less-costly nature, does not offer all the services you might be expecting. Other than this you also need to ask a few questions from the company before you enroll into one of the managed care plans.

Some typical questions are: how many hospitals are covered under the plan you are about to purchase, what healthcare services are available, how much is the healthcare premium that you have pay, what are the deductibles and co-payments for non-network doctors and some other similar questions. This way you will be able to gain an insight into the operations of the health insurance you are planning to buy. If you are not satisfied with the answers or the plan does not seem to fulfill your needs, you can always consider an alternative.

You should also consider the number of doctors that are available under a managed care plan. If you plan to buy POS, this could be a very important step. If you need to see a specialist not listed on the network of doctors you may have to get a referral which is not always possible. So be sure that you are completely satisfied with the network to avoid heavy co-payments and other costs afterwards. However, there is always possibility of having the PCP convinced to refer an outside doctor. If that is the case, most of the charges of healthcare and other bills will be covered by the POS plan.

The managed care plans including POS are available as group policies, individual policies, medicare and medicaid. If you want to get a group policy you might have to get it through your job. Many group policy plans require that you stick with the plan at least for a year and then if you decide to change it you can do that freely. If the organization where you work does not offer group policies you may have to choose an individual policy. Individual policies are more expensive than group policies. Medicare is a Federal health insurance program and it covers the healthcare of people above the age of 65 and those will disabilities. Medicaid is designed for people with low income. Children and women who live alone can benefit from such a policy.

Also Some disadvantages of a POS plan like for non-network healthcare there are high co-payments and getting referrals for more specialists might not be an easy task. In addition for this there are deductibles in case of non network health care. However, this plan is overall less costly than PPO because the all this insurance companies covers most of your visits to physicians and specialists.

There is so much I desperately want to warn people about the nightmare of Socialized medicine. I know all about it. I'm living the nightmare here in Europe.

The most important things to consider are this:

    1) Think your doctor is apathetic and callous now? Ha!! Just wait until medicine is Socialized. He'll probably practice his golf putting while you're still in the examination room. Doctors under Socialized medicine can't care less.

    2) Only 15% of Americans don't have adequate or any health insurance. The majority of them can afford it. They choose not to. Look at how many "poor" people have cable tv, drink coffee at Starbucks, have designer clothing, women with expensive hairdos and guys dressed in Fubu and gold chains. It's all a matter of priorities.

    3) In all countries with Socialized medicine, you do not get a real appointment. You sit like a chump in a crowded, dirty waiting room with dozens of other hapless souls. So now, besides just paying for Loquitia and her six out-of-wedlock kids, you are forced to sit with the ill-mannered, raucous little brats.

    Sound like fun?

    Here is an analogy:

When I was young, we belonged to a nice country club with a pool and tennis courts. Membership was limited to 300 families, so it would not get too crowded. Summers were idyllic. We would often go there at 7am for swim lessons, and stay till 10pm, having eaten lunch there, and been joined by our dad who would bring food for us to grill, just as many other families did. It was a real club in the sense that everyone knew each other. Going to the club was the absolute core of our summers.

Then, it got sold to the Park District. They filled in the deep end of the pool so they wouldn't have to worry so much about anyone drowning. The pool was ridiculously crowded, noisy, and unpleasant. Mothers would just drop their kids off and leave. So many unsupervised children made it a nightmare. The place was dirty, and you could never swim laps because it was overrun by so many people.

Now you understand what will happen if private medical care is replaced by Socialized medicine.

Popular reporter John Stossel pointed out that Americans go to the doctor much more often than any other people on the planet, and take way, way more prescription drugs. We are also the fattest country on earth, and Socialized medicine would just be an excuse for people to demand fast, easy cures for their "obesity disease".

So, what do you want? A nice country club, or the nightmare of a dirty, over-crowded public pool?

The original question, 'Why would anyone think that government could support health care?' is an easy answer… for the same reason that people think that government should support the victims of any natural disaster…

The discussion of government as such, is different from the status of current government as we see it today. No government should venture beyond that which is proper to the protection of rights, and if this was the only focus and responsibility of government, the police, military, and courts would be paradigms of excellence compared to their current status as 'pressure groups' in competition with all comers etc…

The mismanagement of any field properly belonging to the private sector – education, retirement, energy, and health care – are inevitable if left to the government…

    A. Don't have insurance

Insurance is very expensive and most small companies will not pay for it. Along that same point, unemployed individuals cannot afford health insurance either.

  13. dapo00777 says:

I would Not Vote for it! It has already Failed in Europe. Nor would I pass it for another Reason You did not mention…The UN wants to also tell you How to take care of your Children, under the Child Protective Act that will override State Law, Parental Consent and nearly negates any form of home Schooled Children and those in private schools. In this bill is the erosion of the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and 14th Amendments of the Bill of Rights in The United States Constitution giving away Sovereignty and forcing taxpayers into an insurance while giving Illegals No Penalty.

  14. Traveler says:

Legislators can look to other countries to look at the systems they have.

The examples you give above are interesting. I live in the UK, all would get treatment, and none would have a huge medical bill. Yes, we have waiting lists, but like you can in the USA, we can get private medical insurance, and also some employers offer private health cover as well.

But the most important facts, if you are interested, is that in the USA, healthcare cost YOU more than I pay under a 'socialised' health care system. Not only that, healthcare is better. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care#Economics If you look at the figures, the USA has worse life expectancy figures and infant mortality rates than almost every other western democracy.

The USA is the richest and most powerful country in the world. If you are proud to live in it, note that babies born in the US are more likely to die than if they were born in another western democracy, because of your more expensive health care system. Is that right?
